The alarm went off early the next morning. Several tour members headed to the train station to catch the "early bird" train. After a transfer at Klein Scheidegg, the train goes through the mountain to highest train station in Europe (11,333'). At the top, we stood on the observation deck while clouds engulfed us. They parted and provided us with a spectular view of Aletsch Glacier. Our time at the Top was filled with a brief snack at the restraurant, writing and mailing postcards (great cancellation stamp!), exploring the ice palace (tunnel and rooms carved into the glacier) and a scramble on the ice fields before returning.
